Reiki for Kids: Gentle Healing Through Little Hands

A Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reiki to Children

As parents, we want to help our children feel safe, calm, and supported, especially during big emotions, bumps, worries, and moments of overwhelm. While we can’t always fix what’s happening around them, we can offer them simple tools to support what’s happening within themselves. Reiki is one of those tools. It’s a gentle, hands-on practice that helps children slow down, tune into their bodies, and learn that comfort and calm are always within reach.

Children are natural healers.

Before they are taught to push through or ignore their feelings, they instinctively know how to listen to their bodies, their emotions, and their inner world. Reiki for kids helps nurture this awareness and gives children a loving way to care for themselves using their own hands.

What Is Reiki for Children?

Reiki is healing with your hands.

It is a gentle, loving energy that flows through the body and into the hands when invited. Reiki is safe, calming, and accessible for children of all ages. There are no special tools required, just breath, presence, and intention.

When children learn Reiki, they discover that they already have everything they need to support themselves.

A Simple Reiki Practice for Kids

Invite your child to try this practice with you:

Bring your hands together at your heart.
Take a big breath in… and a big breath out.

Now rub your hands together slowly.
Can you feel the warmth between your hands?

That warmth is energy.

Energy flows through your body and into your hands. When you say the words “Reiki flow,” you invite healing energy to move where it’s needed.

Say it together:
Reiki flow.

How Children Can Use Reiki Every Day

Reiki can be used anytime a child needs comfort, grounding, or calm.

  • If your child falls and hurts their knee, they can place their hands on it and say, "Reiki flow."

  • If they feel sad, worried, or overwhelmed, they can place their hands on their heart and say, Reiki flow.

  • At bedtime or during rest, placing hands on the belly or chest and saying "Reiki flow" can help the body relax and settle.

There is no right or wrong way. Children’s intuition naturally guides their hands where they need to go.

Teaching Emotional Awareness Through Reiki

One of the beautiful benefits of Reiki for children is that it supports emotional awareness and self-regulation. When kids learn to pause, breathe, and place their hands on their bodies, they begin to understand their feelings rather than fear them.

Reiki empowers children by reminding them:

  • They can comfort themselves.

  • Their body is safe

  • Calm is something they can create from within.

Reiki Is Always With You

Reiki is gentle.
Reiki is safe.
Reiki is always with you.

When children learn Reiki at a young age, they carry this sense of inner support with them as they grow. It becomes a lifelong tool for grounding, self-trust, and emotional balance.

This practice is shared through story in my children’s book, Little Healers: Reiki, part of the Little Healers Book Series. I created these books to help children feel empowered, calm, and connected to their own healing energy in a way that feels simple, comforting, and age-appropriate.
