Little Healers: Relax to Sleep
A sacred bedtime ritual for calming little nervous systems
There is a moment every evening when the house shifts.
The toys are tucked away.
The light softens.
The day exhales.
This is the space where Little Healers: Relax to Sleep was born.
Not from strategy.
Not from market research.
But from the real words I whisper to my children every single night.
This book is a reflection of our home. Of our rhythm. Of how I guide my children from the fullness of the day into the safety of rest.
We Begin with Remembering
“Today was a wonderful day. What did you do today?”
Before we rush toward sleep, we pause.
We remember what was joyful. What felt big. What felt hard.
This simple reflection teaches children that their experiences matter. That their stories are worth sharing. That someone is listening.
And then, gently, we let it go. We release the day.
Breath as a Bridge
“It is time to let go of the day, relax, and get ready to sleep…”
We take a big breath in. A slow breath out.
“As you breathe out, relax your body.”
Breath is the bridge between doing and being. Between stimulation and rest.
When children learn to breathe with intention, they begin to understand that calm lives inside them. It is not something we force. It is something we return to.
Releasing the Day from the Body
One of the most sacred parts of our nighttime ritual is the gentle body sweep:
“Breathe in and as you breathe out, take your hands and touch your head. Move your hands down your whole body from head to toe, letting go of the day and any energy you have left.”
We physically move our hands from head to toe.
We teach the body to release.
Children carry so much emotion from school, the energy of others, excitement, and overwhelm. When we guide them to consciously move that energy through their bodies, we are teaching regulation in the most natural way.
Not through correction.
Not through punishment.
But through presence.
“One more time…”
Breath.
Release.
Soften.
Wiring Safety Into the Nervous System
“You are peaceful and safe as you breathe in, breathe out, and relax.”
“As you go to bed tonight, know that you are protected, safe, and you are loved!”
These words are not filler.
They are anchors. I say this to my kids every night.
When spoken consistently, they begin to live inside a child. Over time, they become an inner voice.
You are safe.
You are loved.
You are protected.
This is how we raise regulated humans. This is how we plant roots of security that last far beyond childhood.
Why I Call Them Little Healers
“Sweet dreams, little healer.”
I believe children are born deeply intuitive. Sensitive. Connected.
When we teach them how to breathe, release, ground, and return to calm, we are nurturing their natural wisdom.
We are not fixing them.
We are reminding them.
Little Healers: Relax to Sleep is more than a bedtime story. It is a sacred ritual of connection between parent and child. A nightly return to safety. A gentle rewiring toward peace.
And in a world that often feels loud and rushed, that kind of grounding matters.
Sweet dreams, little healer. 🌙
Be Well,
Becky
