What Is Reiki? (And Why So Many Women Are Turning to Energy Healing)

There comes a moment when you realize you’re not tired because you’re doing too much, you’re tired because you’ve been giving too much.

Reiki is one of the gentlest ways I know to come back to yourself.

But what is it, really?

Let’s demystify it.

What Reiki Is

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese energy healing practice developed in the early 1900s by Mikao Usui.

The word itself means:

  • Rei – universal wisdom

  • Ki – life force energy

It’s based on a simple truth: Your body already knows how to heal.

Reiki supports remembering.

What Happens in a Reiki Session?

During a session:

  • You remain fully clothed

  • You lie comfortably (or sit)

  • Gentle hands rest lightly on or just above the body

  • The practitioner channels energy to support balance

Most women describe feeling:

  • Deep relaxation

  • Emotional release

  • Warmth or tingling

  • A sense of “coming home” to themselves

The Nervous System + Reiki

When your nervous system feels safe, your body shifts out of survival mode.

Reiki works beautifully alongside:

  • Therapy

  • Yoga

  • Meditation

  • Somatic healing

  • Bodywork

It’s not about fixing you. It’s about helping you remember your wholeness.

Reiki isn’t something reserved for practitioners.

It’s something we can all learn.

And when women learn to work with their own energy?
Everything shifts.

Be Well,
