10 Fun Animal Activities for Kids That Build Empathy and Confidence
Animal-based play is one of the most powerful ways to build emotional intelligence in children.
Here are 10 simple activities inspired by Little Healers: Animal Messages A–Z.
1. Animal of the Day
Each morning, let your child pick an animal card (or choose a letter from the book).
Ask:
“What quality does this animal have?”
2. Act It Out
Move like the animal they chose.
Roar like the lion.
Stretch like a cat.
Embodied play builds confidence.
3. Draw Your Strength Animal
Have your child draw the animal that feels strongest to them right now.
4. Animal Affirmations
“I am brave like a bear.”
“I am calm like a turtle.”
Repeating positive identity builds internal belief.
5. Nature Walk Observation
Look for birds, insects, or animals outside.
Ask what lessons they might teach.
6. Animal Storytime
After reading Little Healers: Animal Messages A–Z, ask:
“Which animal feels most like you?”
7. Calm Animal Meditation
Use your child’s chosen animal to create a yoga pose. Such as Cat/Cow Pose: Cat-Cow is a fun, gentle yoga stretch on your hands and knees that acts as a wake-up routine for your spine. You make your back round like a scared cat (meow!) while breathing out, and then dip your belly low like a happy cow (moo!) while breathing in, flowing back and forth to feel flexible.
8. Empathy Practice
Ask:
“How would this animal help a friend?”
9. Bedtime Animal Reflection
Before bed, reflect:
“What animal energy did you use today?”
10. Create Your Own Animal Message
Invite your child to invent an animal and describe its strength.
Creativity deepens learning.
These activities work beautifully alongside the story format of Little Healers: Animal Messages A–Z.
